Intro
Accelint was awarded a contract to support U.S. Special Operations Command (SOCOM) in developing modernized command and control (C2) interfaces for Special Operations Forces (SOF). The effort focuses on creating a user-friendly, real-time interface that improves operator survivability and effectiveness in tactical operations.
Challenge
SOCOM required a unified interface that could integrate team data, provide multi-modal control, and automatically synchronize situational awareness across operators via tactical networks. The interface needed to present situational awareness effectively while enabling intuitive operator interaction, supporting real-time management and orientation of battlefield information for SOF teams.
Solution
Accelint, in partnership with Virginia Tech, is designing and developing a user interface for SOCOM focused on two key features: presentation of situational awareness and intuitive, multi-modal control. Core capabilities include:
- Integrated situational awareness: Real-time management and orientation of information through visual display
- Multi-modal control: Interaction via speech, gesture, and other modalities to enhance operator interaction with displays and communication elements
- Team-synchronized data sharing: Automatic sharing and synchronization of situational awareness across team members via tactical data network
- Unified operator interface: Integration of display and communication elements for improved battlefield information access
These capabilities aim to dramatically improve operator survivability and effectiveness by enabling real-time information management and team coordination during tactical operations.
Program Impact
The interface development supports SOCOM's objectives for providing better protection and increased capability for SOF across a variety of tactical operations scenarios. Accelint's situational awareness and multi-modal interface technologies contribute to the advanced capabilities being integrated to support SOF mission sets, with the user interface serving as a key component for overall mission effectiveness.
