Intro
Neal Electric manages electrical projects across multiple industries, generating more than a thousand job estimates annually. The company relied on Excel spreadsheets and paper forms to track its bid lifecycle, from estimate initiation to project closeout. This manual approach limited search, reporting, collaboration, and role-based access control, creating inefficiencies across the organization.
Challenge
Neal Electric needed a centralized, web-accessible system to replace spreadsheets and paper forms. The platform had to track jobs through the full lifecycle, enable robust search and filtering, support reporting on historic and pipeline bids, and provide role-based access for multiple users—all while aligning with existing business processes and improving collaboration.
Solution
Accelint designed, built, and deployed JobTracker, a web-based bid management system built on Microsoft .NET with a SQL Server backend. Key capabilities include:
- Centralized bid lifecycle management: Replaces spreadsheets and paper forms with a single, database-driven application.
- Web access: Employees can access current bid information from any browser.
- Collaboration tools: Users can add and review comments on bids as they progress through the workflow.
- Business analytics and reporting: Provides insight into bid pipeline health, win/loss metrics, competitor trends, and historical performance.
- Role-based access control: Limits user interactions according to functional responsibilities.
- Data migration tooling: Imports historic bids from Excel into the new system.
Program Impact
JobTracker has been in active use at Neal Electric for several years, completely replacing the legacy Excel and paper-based process. The system has undergone multiple upgrades and enhancements as requirements evolved, enabling real-time visibility, streamlined collaboration, and data-driven decision-making across Neal Electric's bid portfolio.
